Considering selling your fountain pen or collection? We aim to make the process straightforward, fair, and transparent. Here are answers to common questions potential sellers have:
1. What types of fountain pens do you buy?
We are interested in a wide range of fountain pens, both vintage and modern. We have particular interest in Parker, Waterman, Montblanc, Pelikan, Sheaffer, etc., or eras like "pre-1960s vintage" or "modern limited editions"
We consider pens in various conditions, from mint/unused to user-grade, and even pens needing repair or restoration.
While our focus is on fountain pens, we may also be interested in related items like ballpoints, rollerballs, or mechanical pencils if they are part of a collection. Let us know what you have!
2. Do you buy single pens or only collections?
We are happy to evaluate both single pens of significant value and entire collections, large or small. Don't hesitate to reach out regardless of the quantity.
3. How does the selling process work? What are the steps?
Our process is designed to be simple:
Initial Contact: Email penpursuits@gmail.com with details about the pen(s) you wish to sell. Please include brand, model (if known), condition, and clear photos if possible.
Preliminary Assessment: Based on the information and photos you provide, we'll give you a preliminary, non-binding estimate of what we might offer.
Shipping for Inspection: If you're comfortable with the preliminary estimate, we'll provide instructions on how to securely ship the pen(s) to us for a hands-on evaluation. "Please refer to section 7"
Formal Offer: Once we receive and inspect the pen(s), we will provide a firm, no-obligation offer.
Acceptance & Payment: If you accept the offer, we process your payment promptly via Paypal Goods & Services.
Declining the Offer: If you choose not to accept our offer, we will securely ship your pen(s) back to you "Please refer to section 7"
4. How do you determine the value and your offer?
Our offers are based on several factors:
Brand and Model: Rarity and desirability in the current market.
Condition: Physical condition (cracks, scratches, brassing, fading), functional condition (nib status, filling system), and completeness (original box/papers).
Rarity & Demand: How common or sought-after the specific pen is.
Restoration Needs: Costs associated with any necessary cleaning, repairs, or restoration.
Our Expertise & Resale: We factor in the time/cost of processing, restoration, and preparing the pen for its next owner.
Our goal is to provide a fair market offer based on our position as a reseller specializing in these items.
5. Is there a fee for the appraisal or offer? Am I obligated to sell?
No, there is absolutely no fee for our evaluation and offer. You are under no obligation to accept our offer.
6. How and when do I get paid?
If you accept our offer, we will issue payment promptly, typically within 2 business days of acceptance. We offer payment via PayPal Goods & Services.
7. Who pays for shipping the pens to you? What about return shipping if I decline the offer?
You will be responsible for the cost of shipping the pens securely to us for evaluation. We recommend using an insured and trackable service. If you decline our final offer, we will cover the cost of insured return shipping back to you.
8. How should I pack the pens for shipping?
Please pack your pens carefully to prevent damage. We recommend:
Ensure pens are empty of ink.
Wrap each pen individually in bubble wrap or soft cloth.
Place them in a sturdy box with adequate padding (bubble wrap, packing peanuts) so they cannot move around.
We will provide more detailed instructions when it's time to ship.
9. What if I don't know much about the pens I have?
That's perfectly okay! Many people inherit pens or are unsure about the specifics. Just provide the best description you can and clear photos through email to penpursuits@gmail.com
